Dear all, as one project leaves our space this weekend, another group of artists arrives. Therefore, we come to you with one reminder and one invitation. This is the last week of nathan c’ha’s exhibition, One tires. One deflates. (03.09.–10.10.2026) at 8B®1. On the exhibition's closing day, we will be opening the Finissage (10.10., 6-9pm) with an artist talk with the artist, hosted by Seth Weiner, the exhibition’s curator. Next week, Ariadne Randall is bringing to 8B®1 her project Our Mouths Are Spring (( Inner Petals )) (15.10.–17.10.), which she developed together with Jacob Bartmann, Matthew D. Gantt, and McKenzie Wark. The project will kick off on Thursday, 15.10, with a workshop by Randall and Gantt (limited spots, registration required). Later, the space will open to the public with a talk with the artists, together with Axel Stockburger (Research Cluster | Digital Cultures, Academy of Fine Arts Vienna) and Eva Fischer (CIVA, Sound:Frame), and moderated by kuntsverein’s own Guilherme Maggessi. On the following two days, Ariadne Randall will perform the piece in separate slots from 4-8pm (registration required too)! Below you can find more information about the project. We are looking forward to seeing you! Wishing you all the best from the 15th district, One tires. One deflates. {Opening: 02.09.2026, 6-9pm} For the exhibition One tires. One deflates. nathan c’ha develops a new site-specific and transdisciplinary project at 8B®1. Rooted in an ongoing sketchbook practice, the exhibition unfolds as a meditation on possibility, exploring how the body in its physical, political, spiritual, and cultural dimensions is both constrained by and resists its surroundings. As c’ha writes: I have been chipping away at depicting a non-binary existence in all its trials and tribulations faced by my own example, but have been hitting walls all around. How does one portray a body that does not get considered a legitimate body by the vast majority of people, as well as most policy-makers? One tires. One deflates. One can choose to liquify oneself, like jelly poured into a mold, deformed and glorious. To be shiny in the face of people who do not consider one worthy. One can choose to accept the perpetual loss of appeal to the masses and embrace the love of the equally weird and beautiful. Or, if one is not too sick and beat down for it, to rise up in resistance and get up time and time again. In this motion, I seek to inquire into the body as a shifting object, an embodied object, a vessel for light to shine through and ultimately reveal what follows next.” These reflections inform the exhibition’s structure and unfold across two rooms. An audio piece weaves both spaces, guiding visitors along shifting routes of image and movement, forming a conceptual bridge between artist, audience, and site. The exhibition was curated by Seth Weiner. This project is made possible through the generous support of the City of Vienna’s Cultural Department (State Wien | Kultur), Lower Austria (Land Niederösterreich), the Republic of Austria’s Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS).
Our Mouths Are Spring (( Inner Petals )) {Opening, Artist Talk, Performances: 15.10.2026, 7pm} Our Mouths Are Spring (( Inner Petals )) is a pop-up exhibition combining electronic opera, live game simulation, site-specific clay sculpture, data-reactive video, poetry, and new texts by McKenzie Wark. Centered around a large generative video opera of the same name by Ariadne Randall and Matthew D. Gantt, Our Mouths Are Spring (( Inner Petals )) asks how commodity flows, network infrastructure, bodies, selves, and desire tangle and shape one another. The exhibition threads this tangle’s logic towards humane ends. Taking a contrapuntal form, it proposes a speculative feminism using prehistoric and cutting-edge technologies in an attempt to skip recorded history. That story of patriarchal power and resource accumulation is already written, and it’s clear where it leads. Other lifeways lived before. So we work with our bodies: clay, voice, and voltages. Bronze Age dresses wave in GPUs. A trans woman’s song slips like wet clay and becomes bitform. Taking a more intimate configuration, the project will be presented at 8B®1 (the headquarters and project space of kuntsverein), centering the audience's presence and focusing on the creation of a discursive space that introduces Randall's project to the Viennese scene. In collaboration with the Research Cluster | Digital Cultures of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Civa Media Art Festival and SOUND:FRAME, the space of the project opens with a workshop (limited spots, registration required) by Ariadne Randall and Matthew D. Gannt, in which the artists create a space for the participants to stretch between conceptualism and technicality. Together, Randall and Gantt ask, how can the use of generative technologies open up the viscerality of their inner workings? After the workshop, the space will be open for the public and will host a talk with Randall, Gantt, and McKenzie Wark (online), followed by a performance by Matthew D. Gannt. On the following two days (16.-17.10.), Ariadne Randall will be performing Our Mouths Are Spring (( Inner Petals )) in separate slots for smaller groups (registration required). Our Mouths Are Spring (( Inner Petals )) is made possible through the support of the Republic of Austria's Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media, and Sport, as well as the support of the Digital Cultures Research Cluster of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Civa Media Art Festival, and SOUND:FRAME.
